Who we are

Empowered Voices is a UK-based grassroots organisation founded by three ambitious individuals during university: Jordan Unokesan (President, University of Cambridge), Blerton Gerguri (Director of Product, Oxford graduate), and Tia Da Silva-Hunt (Director of Operations, University of Birmingham). We all overcame socioeconomically disadvantaged backgrounds and created Empowered Voices to give young people the role models and support that they themselves never had.

We believe in "Our Stories Shaping Yours": by sharing success stories from our mentors we aim to inspire students to believe in their potential no matter their background. Our vision is to bridge the opportunity gap and create a new generation of change makers - ensuring no young person is held back by their circumstances.

Our organisation tackles a well-documented problem: young people from low-income and minority backgrounds often lack access to relatable mentors, professional networks, and career guidance. Subsequently, reinforcing socioeconomic barriers that hold so many back.

Empowered Voices addresses this through three core programme areas: structured mentorship programmes pairing youth with professionals from similar backgrounds, workshops and skill-building sessions covering soft skills like confidence and communication as well as practical skills like career planning and financial literacy, and school outreach involving the deliverance of inspirational talks from our mentors.
